About Dr. Mike Routt Dr. Mike Routt has been the pastor of Circle Drive Baptist Church since February 2002. He serves as a visionary leader, and is currently leading the church through a total campus relocation. In his ministry, he loves preaching, teaching, and coaching/mentoring “younger guys” in the ministry. The church family affectionately calls him “Dr. Mike” because of his earned doctorate from Southern Seminary in Louisville. Mike loves hiking in Colorado, whether it be on a trail with his wife or a 14,000+ ft. mountain with members of the 14er club from Circle (he has hiked 19 of them so far). He also enjoys “diving into” a good steak, occasionally munching on a bag of potato chips, and eating at any Chick-Fil-A. He is the husband of Kathy, the father of Rachel, Holly (Scott), and LeeAnn (Jack), and is incredibly blessed to be “papa” to Daniel and CJ (Caleb Jackson). Mike is also a HUGE fan of University of Kentucky basketball, and loves to read, especially books about leadership and history and biographies, and enjoys working out at a local gym. Prior to coming to Southwestern to teach, Dr. Wilkinson invested 22 years serving on the staff of three great churches—Geyer Springs First Baptist in Little Rock, AR, Central Baptist in Bryan/College Station, TX, and First Baptist in Rockwall, TX. For seventeen of these years he served as a Single Adult Pastor, where he learned the meaning of Scripture’s sufficiency in ministering to some very challenging circumstances. We will challenge and dismantle the structures that define lasting racial, economic, political, and social inequity. Democrats will promote racial justice through fair, just, and equitable governing of all public-serving institutions and in the formation of public policy. Democrats support removing the Confederate battle flag from public properties, recognizing that it is a symbol of our nation’s racist past that has no place in our present or our future. An Interview with David Crosby (starts at 13:05) A double major in religion and journalism, David Crosby is a graduate of Baylor University. While working on his master of divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he served as a general assignments reporter for the city desk at Times-Picayune in one of the roughest cities in the nation at the time. That experience early in his career opened his eyes to suffering like most believers have never witnessed on a personal level. Following his MDiv, he earned a PhD at Baylor University in ethics and church-state studies. While he is currently the senior pastor of First Baptist New Orleans, where he has served since 1996, he is very passionate about having an impact on the New Orleans community and is involved in community affairs. He he served on a clergy advisory group for New Orleans’ police chief, and has served on the Mayor’s Homeless Task force. In addition, he is a guest editorialist and serves on the round table of the Times-Picayune and Nola.com, a group of regional leaders who give the publisher and editorial team insight from a community perspective. David is the founder and president of the Baptist Crossroads Project that has built 91 homes in the Upper Ninth Ward of New Orleans in a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. CrossroadsNola, its new name, is now turning its focus to addressing the needs of foster children in the region. He is also a member of the board of New Orleans Baptist Ministries which operates a shelter for women and children, Baptist Friendship House, and is building a medical clinic in the Lower Ninth Ward, an underserved area. He has received many awards and recognitions for his efforts, including: Honorable Mention, New Orleanian of the Year, Gambit Weekly, 2006; Role Model Award for 2005, Young Leadership Council of New Orleans; Home Depot Foundation, NeighborWoods Award, 2006, for building healthy and sustainable communities (Baptist Crossroads); Board of Directors Philanthropy Award, 2007; AFP of Greater New Orleans (Baptist Crossroads); Selection Committee, Times-Picayune Loving Cup (civic award), 2007, 2012. One of 13 children, he grew up singing in a gospel quartet with his brothers. Married to his high school sweetheart, Janet Rose Crosby, they have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. First Baptist Church, New Orleans During the 20 years Crosby has pastored First Baptist Church in New Orleans, the congregation has given between 7 and 15 percent of its undesignated receipts through the Cooperative Program despite a major relocation effort and $3.5 million of damages sustained from Katrina. During the fiscal year that began a month following Katrina, First Baptist gave 10.4 percent through CP, according to the SBC’s Annual Church Profile. Over the past five years, the congregation has averaged 9.5 percent giving through CP, Southern Baptists’ unified program of supporting North American and global missions and ministries. Total missions giving for the congregation has been at least 22 percent of its undesignated receipts each of the past five years, according to ACP. Currently, First Baptist forwards 7 percent of undesignated receipts through CP; 1 percent to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; 1 percent to the New Orleans Baptist Association; .5 percent to Baptist Friendship House in New Orleans (a joint ministry of the North American Mission Board and the New Orleans Baptist Association); and approximately .5 percent to a ministry to seafarers at the Port of New Orleans. A designated gift held in trust also generates funds given through CP each year. The church has averaged 658 in worship and 24 baptisms annually over the past five years, according to ACP. Bellevue Baptist Church Increased from giving 1.3 percent of undesignated receipts through CP in 2011 to 2.6 percent in 2012, then increased that percentage to 3.5 in 2013 and 3.8 in 2014. The church’s Great Commission Giving totaled approximately $2.5 million over the past two years and is anticipated to be $1.3 million (6% of undesignated receipts). The church also reported a $150,000 gift to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in both 2015 and 2016. Total missions giving for next year is anticipated at 18 percent of Bellevue’s undesignated receipts. Greear is the pastor of The Summit Church, in Raleigh-Durham, NC and author of Gaining by Losing: Why the Future Belongs to Churches That Send (2015), Gospel: Recovering the Power that Made Christianity Revolutionary (2011), Stop Asking Jesus into Your Heart: How to Know for Sure You Are Saved (2013), and Jesus, Continued…: Why the Spirit Inside You Is Better Than Jesus Beside You (2014). Two main things characterize The Summit Church: its gospel focus and sending culture. The gospel is not merely the diving board off of which we jump into the pool of Christianity, it’s also the pool itself. Joy, reckless generosity, and audacious faith all come by learning more about God’s extravagant love found in Christ. God has blessed The Summit Church with tremendous growth. Under J.D.’s leadership, the Summit has grown from a plateaued church of 300 to one of nearly 10,000, making it one of Outreach magazine’s “top 25 fastest-growing churches in America” for many years running. The Summit Church Under the leadership of Pastor J.D., average weekly attendance at The Summit Church has grown from 350 in 2002 to just under 10,000 in 2016. The Summit Church has sent out 149 people through IMB; 75% of those are located in 10/40 window. Over last 5 years,The Summit Church has planted 25 domestic churches in partnership with NAMB, all Southern Baptist (including 5 that we recruited to SBC). Of those churches, 15 have been sent out of the RDU congregation along with 325 church members. This year, The Summit Church will plant 7 more churches—all in SEND cities. The Summit Church baptized 928 people in 2014, according the ACP data. Nearly 20% of the attendees in English-speaking services at The Summit Church are non-anglo, a dramatic increase from 5 years ago. Half of the campus pastors at The Summit Church are non-anglo. More than 100 of members have moved into lower-income neighborhoods as part of The Summit Church’s DWELL initiative to evangelize and plant churches in under-resourced communities.
