A Descent into Darkness

It started with the small stuff—traffic fines piling up, drug charges creeping in—but it didn’t stay small for long. The law caught up quick, and incarceration hit me hard, a slap of reality I couldn’t dodge. I tried recovery, sure, but I couldn’t play it straight. I cheated the system, bending rules to keep my freedom, until Portland felt like a noose tightening around my neck. So I bolted, leaving it all behind to chase something—or someone—else: my ex-girlfriend.

We were a wildfire waiting to burn out. Together, we dove into drugs like it was our religion, using more than we could handle, lost in a haze of reckless highs. Disaster? We didn’t see it coming—it slammed into us like a ton of bricks. What we had, whatever love or connection we clung to, shattered under the weight of it all. One day, she looked into my eyes and froze. They weren’t mine anymore—black, empty, no trace of color left. She didn’t see me; she saw a demon staring back. That was it—the moment she couldn’t see me any longer, the moment I knew we’d gone too far to turn back.

Our world collapsed. The drugs didn’t just take our time or our health—they stole us. She walked away, and I was left with nothing but the wreckage of what we’d been.
