Je rijdt bij Arnhem het land uit, trekt op de Autobahn het gas open en binnen een halfuur rij je het Ruhrgebied in. Niet per se een toeristische parel: geluidswallen, flats en fabrieken zover het oog reikt. Wat het Ruhrgebied wel heeft? Voetbal. Het barst er van de clubs, van gigantisch groot tot klein en obscuur. Een soort lelijk Londen, maar wat komen we er graag. Van Borussia Dortmund tot MSV Duisburg, van Schalke 04 tot Rot-Weiss Essen. Op naar Duitsland. Op naar het Ruhrgebied.
