Sarah Ghiorse, a passionate advocate for women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals in New Mexico, passed away at 52 after battling cancer. Born on the East Coast, she earned degrees in womens studies and social anthropology, sparking her love for the West and social justice. Ghiorse co-founded a youth alliance for Indigenous causes and later led NewMexicoWomen.Org, growing it from a small organization to one with a multi-million dollar budget. She championed various causes, including birthing centers, Indigenous films, and violence survivor services. Ghiorse is survived by her family and will be remembered for her love and fierceness in the fight for equity.
