Two Las Cruces students, Roma Subedi and Evaleen Vasquez, are finalists in the Poetry Out Loud state competition. Roma, a sophomore, performs Walt Whitmans O Captain! My Captain! and loves structured forms like sonnets and haikus. Evaleen, a senior, chose Mist by Lola Rodríguez de Tió and runs a baking business. The finals are Sunday at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, with the state winner heading to Washington, D.C. for the national finals.
