In northeast Albuquerque, the Heritage Hills Gatekeepers, a group of dedicated volunteers, have transformed a troubled park into a safe haven for families. Led by Samantha Ferguson, they open and close the park gate daily, controlling vehicle access while welcoming walkers. The initiative, started eight years ago, was inspired by neighbors desire to protect the neighborhood for kids. The Gatekeepers aim to inspire other areas by advising on how to arrange keys and agreements with Albuquerques Parks and Recreation Department.
