Show Notes
Country Joe McDonald, the iconic sixties rock musician known for his anti-war anthem I Feel Like Im Fixin to Die Rag, passed away at age eighty-four due to Parkinsons disease complications in Berkeley, California. McDonald, a long-time Bay Area musician, gained fame with his band Country Joe and the Fish, which he formed during the Summer of Love. His song, written in 1965, became a protest staple and was performed before large crowds. Despite the backlash, including a canceled Ed Sullivan appearance and an arrest, McDonald continued to write protest songs and release hits and albums for decades. He is survived by his wife, five children, and four grandchildren.
