Sixth Measles Case Confirmed at New Mexico Detention Center; Vaccination Teams Deployed
Health officials in New Mexico have confirmed a sixth measles case this year at a detention center in Doña Ana County, involving a federal inmate. This brings the total to six cases across the state in 2026, all among federal detainees. Two cases each have been reported at the Doña Ana, Hidalgo, and Luna County detention centers.
If you were at the U.S. District Court building in Las Cruces on February 24th, you may have been exposed. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a red spotted rash. Vaccination teams are on site at all three centers, and staying up to date on your measles vaccine is recommended for protection.
