A Verse for Witches is the first book in the "Song of Tsing" trilogy by John Hundley. It's a fantasy romance published in 2025.
This installment tells the story of Tsing, an orphan raised by monks who becomes a mercenary. He is hired by an Alchemist to find a jewel called the "Eye of Ellindrell". Tsing meets Erin, a young woman who helps him on his quest. It turns out that Tsing is the "orphan king" of prophecy, and he is in danger. Erin, a dream walker, is tasked with protecting him. They face many challenges, including demons and the machinations of a powerful warlock named Mazuom. The book ends on a cliffhanger, with Erin being kidnapped. The reader is encouraged to find out what happens next in "A Chorus of Swords".
