The Heart of Winter. It was written by Jonathan Evison and be published in 2024.

It is a novel that tells the story of Abe and Ruth Winter, a couple who have been married for over 70 years. The story takes the reader back and forth between the present day and flashbacks to significant moments in Abe and Ruth’s lives together. The novel opens with Abe facing his final birthday and the likelihood that he won’t outlive Ruth as he had planned. Shortly after his birthday, Ruth is diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that will require surgery and a long recovery. The story follows Abe as he faces the possibility of losing his wife and reflects on their life together, both the good times and the bad. The reader learns about Ruth’s struggle to find her own identity within the marriage, her infidelity, and the tragic loss of their daughter, Karen. The novel explores themes of love, loss, forgiveness, and the challenges and rewards of a long-term relationship.
