"Heartless Hunter" by Kristen Ciccarelli is a fantasy novel published in 2024.
The book tells the story of Rune Winters, a young woman who secretly protects witches from persecution while maintaining a public persona as a witch hater. To protect the witches, she has to deceive Gideon Sharpe, a witch hunter, into believing she is not a witch herself.
Rune was raised by her grandmother, a witch whom she betrayed to the authorities. She uses magic and her social standing to help the witches she saves. Rune uses her reputation as an informer and fabricates a relationship with Gideon to gain information about the activities of the witch hunters. As Rune's feelings for Gideon deepen, she finds it increasingly difficult to maintain her deception, leading to conflicts and dangers as she continues to protect the witches.
