Show Notes
Reserve deputy Luis Rivera, fired from Volkswagens Chattanooga plant for having a gun in his car, sues for at least $500,000, citing Tennessee law protecting his right to store it securely. Rivera, a sheriffs office trainee, was suspended and terminated after disclosing the unloaded, locked handgun as required by state rules. Despite the firing, a state labor ruling deemed him eligible for unemployment. Rivera argues Volkswagens no-weapons policy doesnt apply to him due to Tennessee statutes and the companys own rules. The lawsuit is now in federal court, testing company rules against state protections.
