Show Notes
Alaskas Aleutian Islands have been the epicenter of some of the worlds most devastating earthquakes and tsunamis, with the deadliest occurring in 1946 and 1964. These disasters led to the establishment of the U.S.s first tsunami warning system. Despite the constant threat, Alaskans have learned to stay vigilant, as the ground shaking itself is the only warning for local tsunamis. With an average of forty thousand earthquakes annually, Alaska remains a hotspot for seismic activity. Scientists are now monitoring Mount Spurr near Anchorage, predicting a potential eruption in the near future, keeping the region on high alert.
