The word addiction means “to be devoted to or to give one’s self over to something completely.” The word addiction comes from the Latin word addictus, which means “to sacrifice, sell out, betray, and abandon.” Those who are addicted have betrayed themselves and sold themselves in an attempt to find a way to avoid the pain of being human.
