Butyrate, and other short chain fatty acids, are made by beneficial bacteria in the gut, through fermentation of dietary fiber. These SCFAs play a crucial role in maintaining gut health by providing energy for beneficial bacteria,sustaining the gut barrier that prevents leaky gut and certain autoimmune conditions and generally reducing inflammation. This study suggests that increasing gut butyrate availability can improve BP.
