Because eventually the neighbor will get sick of replacing the mailbox, and instead reinforce it with concrete and steel. A couple of neighborhood teenagers learned that the hard way when they tried to smack OP's mailbox with a baseball bat, only to break their own arms instead! How do you like a taste of justice?!</p>
