There had to be a response - and Everton delivered one to the shock FA Cup exit by returning to winning ways in the Premier League on Tuesday night at Huddersfield Town
But, while the result was the one most certainly required, was it the right reaction and performance?
It is a question that kicks off the latest Royal Blue podcast, hosted by Phil Kirkbride, and featuring David Prentice, Adam Jones and Chris Beesley.
Marco Silva's starting line-up at the John Smith's Stadium then comes under the microscope with the display produced by Cenk Tosun coming in for praise.
But will it be enough to reverse the striker's fortunes at Goodison?
A more immediate issue for Silva to solve is who will start at left-back on Saturday versus Wolves following Leighton Baines' injury and Lucas Digne's sending off against Huddersfield.
The panel debate that before talk turns to Idrissa Gueye's potential move to Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day.
Opinions are split over what Everton should do if the Ligue 1 leaders return with an improved bid for the midfielder, who was conspicuous by his absence on Tuesday.
But what was encouraging was how Tom Davies played after he took the place of Gueye and the lads wonder whether the youngster is now ready for a run in the side.
