Show Notes

"Teams can only be effective if the leader is effective." This powerful insight from Dr. Carrie Graham on Roaming with Restless Women really struck a chord with me. Leadership isn’t about giving orders; it's about creating a supportive culture that empowers everyone to do what they do best.

When a team appears to have an issue, Dr. Graham often advises managers to observe their team's interactions outside the office to identify underlying issues. As a fellow training and development professional myself, I used to tell managers to take their teams bowling to observe the team dynamics and then we would talk about what interventions might need to happen to strengthen team dynamics. Many times, what appears to be a team problem is actually a leadership issue. Effective leaders build effective teams, and that’s a lesson worth remembering.
