SPOTLIGHT MONDAY: Lorenzo's Polyvagal Theory

On today's Spotlight Monday, we shine the light on polyvagel theory as shared from our guest, Lorenzo, author of Bringing Hope, from Episode 61. He explained polyvagal theory and how it relates to first responders. He shared how through his research he discovered that there were several first responders who lived in this disassociated, dorsal vagal state, and they dip down every shift into fight or flight which gives the misconception that they could still feel emotions so they are fine. He described how the effects of this long-term fight or flight didn't allow first responders enough down time to rest, digest, heal, and create dopamine connections from loved ones. For further information, we encourage you to read Lorenzo's book, Bringing Hope.
