Who would have thought during the offseason when Carlos Correa ended up signing with the Giants, then signing with Mets, and ultimately staying with the Twins, that this game would mean absolutely nothing for the Mets and the Twins would be running away with their division? As always, the Mets in 2023 show signs of dominance, followed by brutal losses. The series verse the Nationals is no different and basically has killed any chance of a miracle playoff push. From 'Baseball Isn't Boring' (subscribe here): Now that we have had a month to digest all these prospects changing organizations thanks to the MLB Trade Deadline, it's time to reflect on who might have gotten the best haul. Judging by early returns, it sure looks like a case can be made for the Mets with how well Drew Gilbert has looked. The former first-round pick, who came over to New York with Ryan Clifford in exchange for Justin Verlander, has been tearing it up in Double-A. Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline joins Rob Bradford to give his perspective on Gilbert, and a few other early Trade Deadline success stories. The Mets take two of three from the Seattle Mariners. It could have been a sweep if Peterson, Ottavino and Vogelbach didn't do what they normally do. On top of that, Ronny Mauricio makes his debut and does nothing but get five hits in three games along with a pair of stolen bases. Will the final month of the season secure a roster spot for Ronny or any of the other young kids? Many of them have appeared on the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast. From 'DA's New York Accent' (Subscribe Here): Many Mets fans may be surprised to know Ed Kranepool has the third most hits in franchise history. The beloved member of the ‘69 Amazin’ Mets was much more than just a good quote. He spent his entire career with the Mets, starting with the expansion team in ‘62, right through the dark years of the late ‘70s. He saw it all, from national punchline to World Champs, then back into the abyss. Through it all he kept a good sense of humor and has plenty of stories from the Mets ascent in the ‘60s. Listen to Kranepool discuss the steps in building a winner, getting along with veterans 20 years older than him as a rookie, and how he’d have at least 1 more championship if Gil Hodges hadn’t passed away. Pete Alonso has been known to get a little "odd" here and there on and off the field. From how serious he takes the home run derby, humping the dugout after a teammate gets a big hit or even the LFGM. The other day however, it got a bit awkward as the Polar Bear threw away a players first hit into the stands. Whoops?
