Show Notes

Edward Rutherford's saga "New York: The Novel" opens in the middle of the 17th century as Dutch fur traders converse with the Indians who inhabit the area around New Amsterdam. It takes you on a 450 year journey through multiple families and more than a dozen generations culminating with the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers in New York City. It does a masterful job of explaining the people -- the good and the bad -- who chose to make New York home. It tells the tale of the immigrants who came there and stayed to make a better life for themselves -- and how this melting pot develops into one of the world's largest and best known cities. New York: The Novel -- this week's featured selection on Rick's Reading List.
