Donald Trump’s inaugural speech promised a new golden age and mirrored his address from eight years ago describing a faltering United States. After taking office Trump pardoned 1,500 January 6 defendants and signed a raft of executive orders. And on the U.S.-Mexico border, a sweeping immigration crackdown means even migrants who showed up for their asylum appointments were turned away.
