Bungie’s Marathon is a new extraction shooter released on March 5, 2026. Although it garnered positive reviews on Steam, its player count remains fairly low. So what happened? Is the game woke or is there something else going on?

I cover its aesthetic dimension, gameplay, shell (class) system, maps, quests, weapons, items, and factions. I compare Marathon to other extraction shooters, such as Escape from Tarkov and Arc Raiders, and ponder why this reasonably good game hasn’t had a big impact on the gaming world.
