Remember the cell of five terrorists who established a training
camp in the New Mexico desert? Their makeshift compound, was
discovered because of a search for a missing boy and a plea for
help that came from Facebook, answered by an imam who was
the first Muslim to offer opening prayer before the U.S. House of
Representatives, and also the father of one of the terrorists. This
is a story full of twists and turns that would seem invented by a
Hollywood screenwriter, except that it’s all true and horrifying.
It began with an affair between polygamist Siraj Wahhaj and the
woman who became his second wife, Jany Leveille. They decided
to kidnap Siraj’s son, then gather their friends to set up a terrorist
training camp in the remote desert. Unfortunately, the boy, 3-year
-old Abdul-ghani Wahhaj, had a seizure disorder that Siraj and
Jany decided to cure with an exorcism that resulted in his death.
Siraj Ibn Wahhaj and Jany Leveille, are charged with abuse of a
child resulting in the death of a child and conspiracy to commit
abuse of a child. However, Jany was recently found mentally unfit
to stand trial, and is now in a psychiatric hospital. She saw herself
as a religious prophet for the group and not only believed the boy
was possessed by evil spirits, but that the dead would rise and
instruct them on the government institutions they were to destroy.
