Show Notes
Stephan Balliet’s twisted life -in some ways similar to The Joker
character and school shooters like Adam Lanza- led to his
attempted massacre of Jews - with the typical terrorist’s manifesto
and streaming video left to inspire copycats. A 27-year-old loner
who lived with his mom, spent hours online, and blamed others for
his problems, he targeted a synagogue in Halle, Germany on Yom
Kippur, the holiest Jewish holiday of the year.
Though the synagogue had requested a police presence during
the holidays, the German government had turned it down.
Fortunately, the worshippers managed to prevent Balliet from
entering or blowing up the synagogue, but were not spared
having to watch his attempts to massacre them on CCTV.
Hear about his earlier life, what disappointments and traumatic
events fed his anger, and what made him confess after his attack
-which killed random victims outside. And hear why Balliet’s dad
began weeping when asked if he thought of his son after hearing
about an attack on a synagogue.
