Minecraft and YouTube are inspiring kids in Russia and the
UK to become terrorists, while kids are the targets of
terrorism in Afghanistan. Either way, it’s a tragedy when
kids are caught up in the war on terror.
Three Russian teens are facing years of prison, after being
charged with training for terrorist activities. It started with
their planning to destroy a virtual Federal Security Service
building they created on the computer game Minecraft and
ended with Molotov cocktails and more. A British young man,
who'd been imprisoned for stabbing a homeless person
when he was 16, got re-arrested when it was discovered he
was watching bomb-making videos on YouTube and had
fantasies of acts of terror in his diary.
At the same time, terrorists were acting on their fantasies in
Afghanistan, bombing a high school at a time when they
knew female students would be there. Though the Taliban
has denied responsibility, it does not bode well for the
future if American and NATO troops are totally pulled out.
Kids becoming terrorists or the target of terrorists… is not
child’s play!
