Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. There will be tales of ghosts, murder, supernatural beings and unexplained mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, relax and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma....

And on today’s Dark enigma we’re putting all the anger and angst of the past year behind us and focusing on something we can all agree on… the upcoming holiday season! So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is yours, so choose your poison accordingly…

Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say tradition that will be a single shot and every time I say Christmas, that will be a double shot. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… Regardless of religion or what you chose to celebrate, it’s one of the biggest holidays and with the roller coaster year we’ve had, it should be one of the biggest and best Holidays yet… why? Because we deserve it! So it’s time to get out the tacky, ugly sweaters, pull out the decorations and pre-heat the oven, because we’re talking trees, food and celebration today!

Christmas – just saying the word brings visions of shining ornaments hanging on a beautiful evergreen tree filling the room with a fresh scent of pine and warmth. We huddle close to family and friends and use this time to reflect and celebrate the passing of the year. Christmas is a newer holiday, but its origins are steeped in traditions from millennia past.

In the Northern hemisphere, the winter solstice has been viewed as a time for feasting, merrymaking but also a time of sacrifice. All of our current traditions sprang from the celebration of the Winter Solstice of our Nordic forefathers. From the Yule log, to the decorated tree and even singing of carols (also known as wassailing), but it wasn’t until the Roman Saturnalia – a week-long celebration – where gift-giving became part of the festivities. Even though the Roman holiday was about giving presents, the Romans knew it was far more important to honor the agricultural gods.
