In this inspiring episode, Angelina Rivera interviews Amberly Lago, an internationally recognized speaker on resilience, grit, and human connection.
Amberly opens up about the defining moments that shaped her life. Growing up in a financially challenging environment in Texas, she learned early on that if she wanted something, she would have to work for it. By the time she was a senior in high school, she was working four jobs and determined to leave her small town to pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer.
Her persistence paid off when she moved to Los Angeles and quickly found success dancing in MC Hammer’s iconic “Can’t Touch This” music video and appearing in major publications.
But Amberly’s life changed dramatically after a devastating motorcycle accident that crushed her leg and severed her femoral artery. She was placed in an induced coma and faced the terrifying possibility of amputation. Doctors initially believed saving her leg had only a 1% chance of success.
After 34 surgeries, Amberly not only saved her leg but also faced another challenge when she was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a chronic nerve condition that left her in constant pain. Despite being told she would likely be permanently disabled, Amberly chose to fight for her recovery and rebuild her life.
Today, Amberly travels the world sharing her story of resilience, mindset, and perseverance. She emphasizes the importance of:
• Daily discipline over motivation
• Gratitude and journaling practices
• Movement as medicine for the mind and body
• Community and connection during difficult seasons
• Choosing courage even when life doesn’t go as planned
Amberly reminds listeners that resilience isn’t about bouncing back. It’s about choosing to move forward and live with purpose despite the pain.
She also shares details about her Unstoppable Success Summit, an event focused on empowering others while supporting survivors of human trafficking through the organization Call to Freedom.
