Officers arrived just after 9pm and Gary pointed them to the car, overturned and lying in the body of water. He said that his wife was still inside- he’d tried to pull her out and to safety but she was unconscious and he couldn’t pull her through the open window. He told them he’d thought there was no point in both of them dying, so he’d decided on saving himself and had been waiting by the side of the river ever since.
