I was asked recently if keeping houseplants is sometimes enacted as a form of imprisonment or slavery. The person went on to add, "Constraint--environmental, emotional, physical, spiritual--is a part of every being's experience, whether self-imposed, imposed by others, imposed by conditions of incarnation. How do plants cope with constraint differently than humans or other animals?
