The field of herbalism has changed considerably over the past thirty years. Once, aspiring herbalists had few mentors and essentially had to create the path into the herbal lifestyle on their own. Forty years ago, Peru’s Department of Agriculture tallied maca cultivation at only 70 acres. By the early ‘90s, maca was on the endangered plants list. Summer fruits are abundant, especially amidst the dog days of August and into early September. Blackberries and peaches are coming on as are plums, early apples, and pears.
