From Behind A Staten Island Starbucks

Joining us from behind a Starbucks somewhere on Staten Island, Molly Webster is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate her new #ChildrensBook Little Black Hole. The senior correspondent for NPR's Radio Lab tells us that there once was a little black hole who loved her universe, and especially her friends: the stars and the planets, the space rocks and the space fox, even the flying astronauts. She loved to play and laugh with them as they soared through the galaxy. That is, until they disappeared—which was always what happened. The little black hole felt all alone. But when she meets a big black hole and shares her worries, the big black hole knows just how to help! And the little black hole finds out that she has the power to find her friends, wherever she goes. With a quirky, playful story and sweet and silly art, this heartwarming story reminds us all that, no matter how lonely or anxious we might get, friendship is never more than a quick thought—and glow—away. And with back matter that gives readers information about the real science of black holes, this is a perfect book for all of the young space and science fans out there! The Awesome Stuff!

David Delisle is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate his #GraphicNovel The Golden Quest - Your Journey To A Richer Life And The Awesome Stuff. David is an entrepreneur, investor, speaker, and – most importantly – a dad. When he was 11, he made his first investment and by age 20 he had begun investing in real estate. Learning the power of compound growth at such a young age enabled him to quickly become a self-proclaimed finance nerd and semi-retired by age 40. When he realized that he wanted to pass this knowledge on to his two young sons, he began compiling notes into what would eventually become a graphic novel called The Golden Quest, which was published in 2022. The book is centered around seemingly simple concepts (young children grasp these concepts with ease) that hold the power to transform your mindset and everyday habits. His goal is to offer us a new way to think about money by noticing the weight of our words, choices, actions and the world around us. The Ice Cream Man

Glenda Armand and Kim Freeman sit down with co-host Cassandra Maisonet to celebrate their inspiring #PictureBook Ice Cream Man. The authors tell Cassandra that the book tells the inspiring story of Augustus Jackson, an African American entrepreneur who is known as "the father of ice cream." Augustus Jackson was born in 1808 in Philadelphia. While most African Americans were enslaved at that time, in Pennsylvania, slavery was against the law. But while Augustus and his family were free, they were poor. Augustus enjoyed helping his mom prepare meals for their family. He dreamed of becoming a professional cook, and when his mom suggested he may be able to make meals for the president one day, Augustus didn't waste any time in making that dream a reality. In 1820, when he was only twelve years old, he set off for Washington, DC. He applied to work in the White House, where the head cook offered him a job as a kitchen helper. After five years of working hard, Augustus, or Gus, was promoted to cook. He went on to serve presidents James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson. During his time at the White House, Augustus became an expert at making a popular egg-based dessert. He soon made an eggless version—known to us today as ice cream—and left the White House determined to make and sell the frozen treat to everyone, not just the wealthy. Gus headed back home to Philadelphia, and in 1830, he opened his very own ice cream parlor. Click here to visit our website - www.readingwithyourkids.com

How Many Squirrels Are In The World?

Ben Gundersheimer (known onstage as MISTER G) is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate his latest #ChildrensBook How Many Squirrels Are In The World? By age nine he was writing his own original songs, and as the son of children's book author/illustrator Karen Gundersheimer, composing stories was a constant activity as well. Ben went on to receive a scholarship from Berklee College of Music, travel the world as a singer/songwriter, and earn a Master of Education degree. During his student teaching days he engaged his fourth graders through music, and it was this experience that transformed him into MISTER G, inspiring him to relaunch his career to focus on performing for children and families.
