Mae McLendon, a devoted public servant and community stalwart in Carrboro, North Carolina, passed away at age 75. Born in Red Springs, she moved to Orange County in 1964, balancing motherhood and education. Mae earned degrees in sociology and social work from UNC Chapel Hill, where she was involved in the Black Student Movement. She spent 20+ years at the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and volunteered extensively, earning a lifetime achievement honor from Duke Energy. Maes legacy of service and mentorship continues to impact Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
