Show Notes
The New York Jets quarterback room is undergoing a significant overhaul this offseason. After acquiring Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders to start in week one, they traded Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs and let Tyrod Taylor go to free agency. With Smith, Brady Cook, and Bailey Zappe currently on the depth chart, the team is in need of a reliable backup.
Carson Wentz and Cooper Rush were considered potential options, but Wentz is unlikely to sign and Rush remains available. Andy Dalton, who had a strong fit with offensive coordinator Frank Reich, was a promising choice, but he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles by the Carolina Panthers.
Despite the setback, the Jets still have options, with Wentz, Taylor, and Rush all having backup experience that aligns with Reichs style. Bringing back Taylor could be the simplest move for team chemistry and to mentor any draft pick next year.
