Golden Retrievers have become Raleighs most popular dog breed, topping the charts in Seattle and Austin as well. Nationwide, French Bulldogs remain at the top, followed by Labs, Goldens, German Shepherds, and Dachshunds. In Raleigh, Labs are second, with French Bulldogs, Poodles, and Beagles rounding out the top five. The AKC advises careful breed research, not just following trends. Top male and female dog names include Max, Hank, Teddy, Cooper, Gus, Luna, Bella, Daisy, Lucy, and Ruby. The AKC has also added three new recognized breeds for 2026.
