S3 Ep 125Ginger Hubbard’s 3-Step Plan to Help Tame Your Child’s Tongue (Part 1)

“We live in a nation that defies God at every point, including child training.” -Ginger Hubbard. Ginger Hubbard is a bestselling author of multiple books, the co-host of the Parenting with Ginger Hubbardpodcast, and a frequent speaker at women’s events, parenting conferences, and homeschool conventions across the country. Ginger gives her insight and knowledge to help equip parents with biblical principles and the tools to implement those principles in a practical way throughout her book, I Can’t Believe You Just Said That. Key Takeaways: How parents can apply the scriptures from the Bible to verbal sins. Parents struggle with problems when dealing with a child who speaks disrespectfully, such as explaining to children that outer sins derive from the heart or that parents are not following the instructions in the instruction manual (the Bible). The simple 3 step plan for dealing with offenses such as lying, tattling, whining, or complaining: Step 1- start with heart probing questions, which helps kids evaluate themselves and the sin in their own heart (2-3 very simple suggested questions). Step 2- what to put off; explain what God’s word says about that behavior and what could happen if that behavior continues. Step 3- what to put on; help the child replace what is wrong with what is right. Parents can get their children to implement the principles being taught by requiring them to practice that biblical alternative to that sinful behavior. S3 Ep 124How Brain Waves Can Affect Your Child’s Ability to Listen to You

Did you know that you can cause damage to your children if you are hyper-critical during certain stages of development? As parents, it is crucial to help our children reflect and learn from their mistakes in a warm and encouraging way, not by harsh words and punishment. This approach is much more beneficial for them to become better listeners. Key Takeaways: Theta brain wave dominates children’s brain function from age five and under. Experts say that we can cause damage to our children if we are hyper-critical during this stage. When our kids are at this age, they live in the realm of imagination where they can’t show signs of rational thinking yet. They aren’t likely to accept what you tell them is true because their imagination and reality are entangled. The beta brain wave dominates brain function from age seven and onward. This is when brain activity increases and we live in a world of conscious, analytical thinking, and our mind is awake/focused and able to think logically. Adults spend most of their time in this cycle. Resources from this episode: “Parents, be mindful of your words,” by Bruce H. The Bible warns us in Ephesians 6:4, “Do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the lord. There are many ways you may be provoking your children without knowing the harmful effects it could have on them in the future. Some examples of provoking our children: When our demands are arbitrary or unfair. When we expect them to be good all the time. When we are hypocritical by punishing them for something that we do as well. It is important to be aware of how often we may be provoking our children and choose a more positive approach when disciplining. S3 Ep 119What Are Sins of Omission? 10 Examples to Help Explain Them to Your Children!

Does your child know the difference between sins of commission and sins of omission? A sin of commission is when someone of higher authority tells you to do something, and you do not do it. Most children understand sins of commission because there are potential consequences for disobedience, meaning they get punished for not doing what they are told. A sin of omission is when someone doesn’t do something that they subconsciously know they should do. This is a much harder sin for children to understand. Bible verses that can assist you when teaching children about sins of omission: James 4:17, Romans 12:13, 1 Samuel 3:13, Matthew 10:33, and Luke 16:10. S3 Ep 117How Can Sportscasting Help Your Child Become Better Problem Solvers & Critical Thinkers?

Sportscasting is a tactic that gives children an opportunity to become better problem solvers! Sportscasting happens when we take a back seat to a problem instead of participating in fixing it. When a sportscaster is reporting during a game, they are simply talking objectively about what is happening - they are not getting on the field and playing. We can do the same for our kids when they struggle with something and are trying to figure out a solution. Six ways you can incorporate sportscasting into your parenting style: Give your child adequate time to solve the problem before jumping in. When they are becoming increasingly frustrated, empathize with their feelings. Sportscast even when you are the person who has made them upset. Encourage them to come up with solutions. Offer your own ideas and solutions if needed. Don’t belittle the situation. Understanding the Cardinal Points & Teaching Children 8 Christlike Characteristics for Easter

Who were the "Easter people" in the Bible? The cardinal points listed in the Bible (Acts 2:42) are four practices that made the early community of followers of Jesus who they were. These people were Jesus followers called “Easter people.” They were people who lived a completely new experience under the authority of God. As they began worshiping God, they traveled in different directions, giving us the four points, which were adherence to the apostles' teaching (North), commonality (East), breaking of bread (South), and prayer (West). Lee Ann elaborates on these eight characteristics to teach children during Easter: discipline (Proverbs 29:17), respect/honor (Romans 12:10), responsibility (Colossians 2:23-24), gratitude (James 1:17), kindness (Proverbs 16:24), mercy (James 2:13), honesty/integrity (Proverbs 28:13 & Proverbs 11:3), and patience (Proverbs 14:29 & Matthew 20:16). Natasha Crain continues to share her knowledge as she dives deeper into these challenging topics of biblical worldview vs. secular worldview. It is vital to prepare families to take the necessary steps to properly raise the next generation to hold their worldview with biblical clarity and not to let secular ideas creep into their lives. Key takeaways: Quick replies from Greg Koukl’s book, Tactics, to use when you are asked about your faith Examples: someone says, “There are no absolutes.” You say, “Are you absolutely sure?” Or someone says, “God is meaningless.” You reply with, “What does this statement about God mean?” Lee Ann addresses these questions and gives informative replies to respond to your child if asked: "When did time start? What Is Apologetics & How Can We Teach Our Children to Defend Their Faith?

So, what does apologetics mean?? The word "apologetics" comes from the ancient Greek word apologia, a verbal defense. It does not mean you are apologizing for what you believe; it means you are “making a defense” for what you believe. The entire month of March is dedicated to apologetics. Helping Little Ones Deal with Stress & Anxiety by Understanding the Limbic System

Did you know that a four-year-old can be stressed or fearful enough to cause themselves to have anxiety? The Limbic System is the part of our brain that deals with memory, arousal, and emotions. When children become four and five years old, they can become very emotional, fearful, and angry with no explanation. They start experiencing more extreme emotions that they may not understand and can be triggered randomly, like a brain trigger/fight or flight response. What is Moralistic Therapeutic Deism? Why Is It a Threat to Our Children?

Children should know the difference between deism and deity -they are not the same! Moralistic Therapeutic Deism isn’t a religion like Islam or Buddhism but rather a combination of beliefs amongst American teenagers. The idea is that there is a distant therapeutic god out there that is watching that wants them to feel good about themselves, have good morals, and be nice to people. Children who are not brought up to know and love God’s word can be easily led astray. They could confuse the meaning of Deity with Deism. Deity is our one true God who created everything and sustains everything. Deism is a belief in a supreme being who created the universe but is not a supernatural deity who interacts with his creation. Lee Ann gives suggestions in this episode on how we can actively engage in this spiritual battle with our children. Becoming A Gentle Parent by Understanding the 4 Rods of Punishment in Proverbs

Do you know what being a gentle parent means? Are you a parent or grandparent that struggles with the four specific Proverbs that state the rod of punishment is appropriate when disciplining your children, meaning that we should spank a disobedient child? The four rods of punishment in Proverbs: “He who withholds his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently.” “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.” “Do not hold back discipline from the child, although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. You shall strike him with the rod and rescue his soul from Sheol.” “The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child life to himself brings shame to his mother.” The rod was used for corporal punishment as King Solomon wrote these Proverbs to his son, who would become king one day. The word child meant someone between the ages of 12-18 and therefore considered a legal adult in society, which means these Proverbs were not written for children under 12. A gentle parent never yells or spanks when punishing; instead, they disciple in love, which leads to knowledge! Praising God Through the Lord’s Prayer by Understanding the Seven Petitions

This year, did you know that only 6% of Americans were said to have a true and pure biblical worldview? As we raise the next generation, we should ensure we feed them the truth and help them to understand the Lord’s Prayer. Then, after our children understand the Lord’s prayer, we can incorporate it in our worship time at home as a family. The Lord’s Prayer includes seven petitions, which is also the number of days it took God to complete the world. In the first three petitions, we Praise God, and in the last four, we offer praise (worship) to God. Lee Ann expounds on these seven petitions in this episode: “Hallowed be your name” “Your kingdom come” “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” “Give us this day our daily bread” “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” “Lead us not into temptation” “Deliver us from evil” Resources to help teach children the Lord’s Prayer: “The Lord’s Prayer for Children” created by iCharacter ICharacter is a website of biblical picture books for small children at affordable prices “Preteen Lesson on the Lord’s Prayer,” by Ministry to Preteens The Lord’s Prayer – His and Hers Bundle, written by Aubrey Coleman Bible Verses Referenced: Matthew 6: 9-13 Luke 11 Luke 23:24 Hebrews 4:16 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Follow Us On: Facebook Join our Facebook community group! How Can We Help Our Children to Envision God’s Vision for Them?

Sight, vision, and envision... all similar words with very different meanings! Sight is what we see through our physical eyes, and vision is the ability to process what you see and to think about or plan something. Envision is to imagine as a future possibility - to visualize the future. Therefore, it is important to help children learn how to envision their future by helping them understand that once they know who they are in Christ, they can envision their life as one living in the Kingdom here on earth! There are many ways we can help our children envision the vision God has for us - writing down the Bible verses that describe heaven and the Kingdom of God, making a list of what life would be like with and without Jesus, or reading specific Bible verses that talk about having the eyes of your heart opened. Lee Ann digs deeper into these ideas with more specific examples in this episode. Also, for more information, Episode 58 describes the difference between seeing with our physical and spiritual eyes. Teaching the Next Generation to Actively Share the Gospel with Others

How can we expect our children to share God’s word with others if we don’t? Children are naturally curious because they are learning through every experience. According to the American Worldview Inventory 2021, nearly half of the millennials surveyed said they either don’t know, don’t care, or don’t believe that God exists. As adults, are we actively bringing others to Christ by sharing the Gospel? If we wish for our children to share the Gospel, we should set an example. If our children have a chance to tell a friend about Jesus, or the love they have for Jesus, we should encourage them and not rob them of the opportunity that will bless them and honor God. In this episode, Lee Ann details a few ways to help your child learn to share their faith. By helping your child learn how to share the Gospel early, it will become second nature to them. The more they share with others, the more they will remember. Resources to help children spread the Gospel: “The Blab Lab,” created by the Building Children’s Ministry, is a teaching series where kids get to make an invention every week that they use to tell others about Jesus. “Axis” is an online ministry that gives parents and mentors hope by guiding them through culture into a conversation about Jesus. The Importance of Transforming Children’s Curiosity into Motivation

The curiosity of children greatly influences their desire to learn and engage! Children are naturally curious because they are learning through every experience. Children with high levels of curiosity are motivated to learn or accomplish something new for the reward of having mastered it. Science calls this hunger to learn and mastery motivation. It can drive young people to achieve new things without the need for external rewards. Lee Ann expounds on these tips on how you can help transform curiosity into motivation for learning: Create an environment that creates curiosity. Connect children’s curiosity of God’s world, motivating them to explore more. Help your child become the detective for the day. Sit down and write a list of what they are curious about. It would be best if you did not ignore your children’s inquiries; you may be stunting their desire to learn. Try not to be too busy to answer their questions and allow their curiosity to motivate them to learn and grow. As their curiosity motivates them to search for answers, teach them to be aware of the false resources and information on the internet. Teaching Children How to Be Thankful According to 1 Thessalonians 5

A special Thanksgiving message... This past week we celebrated Thanksgiving! It is important to help our children understand that it is God's will for us always to be thankful every day, not just on Thanksgiving. This allows our hearts to become humble and appreciative even when it is hard to be thankful every day in this ever-increasing evil world. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 states, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." And according to Deuteronomy 6, we are to teach our children to do the same. God's will for us is to take every day and every moment to rejoice, make merry (celebrate), and pray by giving thanks that we can rejoice and make merry. However, God is sovereign and in control of all things; he may be allowing something evil in our lives to sift out the sin that dwells within us, and that is why 1 Thessalonians 5 is so important to teach our children. Activity Mentioned: Ministry-To-Children has a "craftivity" for children to help them grasp the concept of 1Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Lesson: More than Turkey… Cultivating a Thankful Heart," by Kristin Schmidt.
