Pete Tridish works as a radio engineer, building low power and full power community radio stations. He initially did this work with Prometheus Radio Project and now with International Media Action.

“Back when I was working with Prometheus Radio Project, which was a group that worked to expand the low power radio service and create opportunities for small civil society organizations to have their own radio stations, one of our best partnerships was with a group called PCUN, Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste [Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United].” PCUN is Oregon’s farmworkers union and the largest Latino organization in the state. “They have nine associated non-profits, one that works on immigrants rights, one that works on youth… leadership development, they have a housing community development corporation, and they had wanted to build a radio station for a very long time.”

That radio station, KPCN-LP just celebrated ten years on the air. Working closely with this unique station taught Pete Tridish a number of important lessons about how communities can put their stations to work for them to build political power.
