El Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz, asumió oficialmente el cargo de Primer Ministro del Gobierno Revolucionario el 16 de febrero de 1959. En el acto de la toma de posesión en el entonces Palacio Presidencial, Fidel subrayó nuevamente que el camino sería difícil, largo, fatigoso, pero había que tener presente la idea de que el entusiasmo no muriera.
