La masacre, conocida como Pascuas Sangrientas, comenzó en la noche del 23 de diciembre de 1956 a la salida de la entonces “Nicaro Nickel Company” y se extendió hasta el 26, con una serie de asesinatos extrajudiciales a presuntos guerrilleros y opositores del régimen de Batista, siendo asesinados campesinos, trabajadores, estudiantes y dirigentes gremiales.
