Show Notes
Dr. Garang Akuot, psychiatric specialist in South Sudan, says cases of depression often reach hospitals late. Due to the lack of psychiatric facilities in the country, some psychiatric patients are sometimes placed in prisons, which can worsen their conditions.
Dr Akuot emphasizes the importance of visiting a psychiatrist.
He tells Radio Miraya's Joana Poni that depression is common in South Sudan's communities, especially among girls who are frequently exposed to social pressures such as violence, and sexual crimes.
