As Holy Week approaches, Fr. Peter George Flynn introduces a new thread in his Lenten series on Sevens: the tradition of visiting seven churches on Holy Thursday night, each one a station corresponding to a place where Our Lord suffered during his Passion. Beginning with the Garden of Gethsemane, he reflects on the holy hour, on the failure and mercy shown to Peter, James, and John, and on what it means to stay awake with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. He also opens the Book of Revelation’s letters to the seven churches, beginning with Ephesus — a community praised for its patience and hatred of heresy, but gently rebuked for letting its first love grow cold. A rich preparation for those who want to enter Holy Thursday with more than just attendance.
