Previously on Dear Moulana, in our story Shaadi Mubarak Mr Patel: Mr Patel visits Moulana again, informing him that he has found someone to remarry. He even invites his children home to meet Zarina, the woman he wishes to marry. Zain and Nabeelah protest against their father’s decision. Mr Patel asks Moulana to perform his nikaah, which Moulana does. After the nikaah, Zain comes to the house to express his anger at his father’s decision.

Previously on Dear Moulana, in our story Shaadi Mubarak Mr Patel: Mr Patel, a retired school teacher from the community, comes to Moulana Muhammed Khan seeking advice on a personal matter he is experiencing. He wants to remarry, but his children, Zain and Nabeelah, are against this decision. His youngest son, Zain, is supportive of him, but he feels defeated after Nabeelah and Zain shut down his idea.

When we look at historical documentation we find that the early Muslim community was very demographically different from how many imagine it. It was more ethnically diverse with a large contingent of Africans living among the Arab population. And even amongst the Arabs, their looks and shades differed greatly beyond their stereotypical depiction. To challenge ingrained notions and biases, it is beneficial to highlight the centrality of Sahabah of dark skin or African origin and the role they played in the formation of the early Muslim community. This episode highlights two stalwarts of Islam of African origins, Sayyiduna Bilal and Sayyidah Umm Ayman (radi Allahu anhum).
