Radio Free Mormon: 96: Defender of the Faith Part 5
Radio Free Mormon was neck-deep in Mormon apologetics during the 1980s. At the apex of his apologetic career, RFM presented a 12-lecture series as an Institute class in the spring of 1989. This is the fifth lecture in that series. Lecture Five deals largely with Joseph Smith’s early involvement in folk magic. This was a hot-button issue of the day. Even as an apologist, RFM was not afraid of dealing with the difficult issues! Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. Radio Free Mormon rides again! Radio Free Mormon: 92: Going Down to Kwaku Town
Radio Free Mormon’s last podcast dealing with young Mormon apologist Kwaku El has been getting a LOT of attention! RFM is releasing this special edition podcast to answer some questions that have been raised relating to that podcast, and to clarify some additional issues. Ultimately, however, RFM puts Kwaku squarely on the horns of a dilemma. Will Kwaku admit to being Kwaku the Deceiver, or merely Kwaku the Deceived? The ball is now in Kwaku’s court! The post Radio Free Mormon: 92: Going Down to Kwaku Town appeared first on Mormon Discussions Podcasts - Full Lineup.
Radio Free Mormon: 91: Kwaku the Deceiver
Kwaku El is one of the rising generation of young Mormon apologists. In a recent video, Kwaku attempts to prove the Book of Abraham is true. But in doing so, Kwaku employs a well known apologetic trick; well known to Radio Free Mormon, at least. In fact, Radio Free Mormon publicly exposed this very apologetic trick in a podcast published seven months BEFORE Kwaku posted his video. Some tricks need to be retired from the apologist playbook. This is one of them. Radio Free Mormon: 90: Does the LDS Church Continue to Hide Its History?
Tonight, Radio Free Mormon shows how the LDS Church continues to hide its history. He first gives a whirlwind tour of the four primary accounts of Joseph Smith’s First Vision. RFM then looks at the new church history titled “Saints” and exposes the contortions the authors go through in order to tell a faith promoting account of the First Vision without ever mentioning the contradictions between the various accounts. In order to see how the LDS Church continues to hide its history, we have to be as conversant with the different First Vision accounts as are the church historians who gloss over the differences and contradictions in “Saints.” It takes a thief to catch a thief. And Radio Free Mormon definitely catches the church historians off first base in their creative, if not deceptive, recounting of Joseph Smith’s First Vision! Radio Free Mormon: 86: RFM v. BYUPD: The Coverup Continues
In this podcast, Radio Free Mormon documents the facts leading to the conclusion that the BYU Police Department is refusing to release information damaging to the LDS Church. This is information that no police agency, acting on its own, would normally try to hide. Because of this, in a second round of public disclosure requests, RFM wants copies of documentation relating to who is making these decisions to not release this information . . . and why. Unsurprisingly, the BYUPD is refusing to release this information, as well. Looks like we are headed back to the Utah State Records Committee on appeal! Listen in on everything that has been going on behind the scenes, and why it is RFM is scheduled to have his case heard by the Utah State Records Committee on September 12, 2019. Radio Free Mormon: 085: Was the 1835 First Vision Account Suppressed?
After all this back and forth with Dan Peterson, RFM was motivated to take a second look at the circumstances of the 1835 First Vision account. After all, Mr. Peterson, the artful dodger of Mormon Apologetics did say “Is it possible that Elder Joseph Fielding Smith… sat on one or more unpublished First Vision accounts? Yes, it is.” So with that RFM takes a look at why the 1835 First Vision accounts was missing essentially just as long as the 1832 account. Radio Free Mormon: 084: The Miracle Making of President Nelson
RFM tackles President Nelson’s seeming embellishment of his life and role as LDS President and Prophet. RFm uses three examples from recent history and shows that Nelson has little issue with adding extra details or removing others in order to add a “miracle-like” perception to his life and experiences. Radio Free Mormon: 082: Daniel Peterson Defends His Honor

Radio Free Mormon: 081: Daniel C. Peterson: The Artful Dodger of Mormon Apologetics
Radio Free Mormon speaks about the 1 year anniversary of his episode #33 Selling Your Soul for Apologetics…………. And you won’t want to miss this. It involves Kiwi57, Stephen “Bukkake” Smoot, and of course our dear friend Daniel C. Peterson. In the previous Episode #33 RFM made it clear that Daniel C Peterson had lied but also that Dan had indeed added multiple other lies and obfuscations on top to buffer him from being accountable to his deception. But good ole’ Dan was clear he had not lied and he would in his own good time respond and clear his name…….. And here we are, 1 year later…… and no response yet! Radio Free Mormon: 080: Will The Real McKenna Denson Please Stand Up!
Today RFM and Bill Reel take time to evaluate the latest events in the McKenna Denson case. Namely Poisoned Orange Juice, A car in flames, and a two attacker assault as well as Mike Norton’s recent tirade expose of McKenna’s past. While McKenna’s past has always been known to be checkered, the recent events raised questions about whether it was McKenna herself who was tainting her own OJ, lighting her own car ablaze, and receiving injuries from her own actions rather than assailants many in the critical thinking Mormon arena are suddenly taking a second look at her past infractions and beginning to see a pattern of a grifter and scam artist who is up to the same old tricks. Radio Free Mormon: 079: Why Are Mormons So Fake
RFM today attempts to start his General Conference review but only gets as far as the first talk he examines…. Elder Soares talk from Saturday Morning. At this point RFM is stopped in his tracks as he encounters a flooding of connections and thoughts related to how Mormons are trained to sacrifice their authenticity in order to always make the Church look good through faking happiness, faking competency, faking family life, faking joy at the gospel and service within it. Faking Faking Faking. So today Radio Free Mormon goes off the rails to address WHY MORMONS ARE SO FAKE! Radio Free Mormon: 070: The Corbridge Manuever – Part 2
Today on Radio Free Mormon RFM and Bill Reel dissect the talk Stand Forever, given on the 22nd of January 2019 by Elder Lawrence Corbridge, a member of the Seventy of the LDS Church. Several Major Points come out – Elder Corbridge seems to have had a level of faith crisis himself while on assignment from the Leadership to dig into “antagonistic material” regarding the Church. -His gloom while claimed not to be Cognitive Dissonance (Belief Bias) and instead to be the absence of the Holy Ghost is irrational and illogical. – The LDS Flow Chart regardless of your experience leads to the Church being true. If you get an answer that the Church is true, then the Church is true. If you get an answer that the Church isn’t true, you’ve been deceived and the Church is true. If you get no answer, you are to rely on the words of others who know the Church is true because the Church is true. If you decide the problematic issues (Secondary Questions) impose the Church isn’t true, then shift your focus to the the Primary Questions which you already decided point to the Church is true, because the Church is true. All Roads lead to the Church is true. The Church has given you no viable formula to arrive at the Church is false. – Elder Corbridge argues that the Divine method (Spiritual Feelings) trumps the Scientific Method, the Analytical Method, and the Academic Method (actual science) in spite of the Divine Method being historically demonstrably less effective at arriving at truth. Even Prophets when allowing the Divine Method to trump the Other three have been led to great error decades on end. – The reason the Divine Method is held up as superior and trumps the other three because the other three if allowed to be given their weight all lead the honest seeker of truth out of the Church. Meanwhile the Divine method is the only method the Church can use to manipulate the person who wants the Church to be true to believe it is true. – And they finish speaking to how much of his own faith crisis Elder Corbridge has exposed within his talk. Radio Free Mormon: 068: Research Is Not The Answer
Today RFM tackles Elder Oaks suggestion that in helping a doubting spouse overcome their doubt, that research is not the answer. RFM walks us through his own journey in the Church showing us that the LDS Church prior to the internet age encouraged its members to be scripturians and Doctrinares. RFM Shows us that when research was an impetus to faith, Research was the answer…… And only once the internet age hit and Research became a detriment to faith that the Church is revising its approach to Research is NOT the Answer.RESOURCES:https://www.lds.org/church/news/president-oaks-counsels-young-couples-defending-the-gospel-on-the-frontline-?lang=enghttps://thirdhour.org/blog/faith/president-oaks-criticism-research-is-not-the-answer/https://bycommonconsent.com/2019/02/05/research-is-not-the-answer/ The post Radio Free Mormon: 068: Research Is Not The Answer appeared first on Mormon Discussions Podcasts - Full Lineup.

Radio Free Mormon: 062: The Book Of Abraham – Missing Scrolls, Catalyst Theories, and Bad Apologetics Part 1
Today we explore the Book of Abraham in Radio Free Mormon Style. Bill Reel once again joins us and we proceed to lay out the following. – Brief overview of the History of the Book of Abraham – Why the critics say it is problematic – What workarounds apologists have created to deal with those criticisms – Why those workarounds are dead ends – Evidences Apologists share – Why those evidences have little credibility – How the Church is adapting to the Problems REASONS THE MISSING SCROLL THEORY DOES NOT WORK: – We know because of Abraham 1:12 and 1:14 itself points to Facsimile 1 and the very text in the papyri following it as the source text of the book of Abraham – We know from the Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar document that if we choose to be rational and logical the most reasonable interpretation of that document is that it represents Joseph Smith’s translation of The Book of Abraham. – An early Egyptologist named Gustavus Seyffarth viewed the missing papyrus in 1856 and described only the Hor text and Facsimile 3. He gave no indication of another text on the scroll, and in fact explicitly denied that the scroll contained a record of Abraham. – Klaus Baer predicted that the missing portion of the Hor text would be around sixty centimeters. Others who have attempted the estimate of the missing length agreed almost exactly with Baer’s estimate. In the end a Missing Scroll theory is simply a Red Herring. Why we know that a missing scroll does not matter? We know where Joseph was translating and it was on the existing papyri. There is a set of documents that the church has always had in its possession commonly referred to as the “Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar” by Joseph Smith. Most of us remember hearing a little bit about it growing up in the church but not really knowing what it was. It was only briefly and rarely mentioned in church. With the discovery of the missing papyri in 1966, critics claim that these documents show a definite link between the papyri and the actual text of the Book of Abraham. The manuscript is in the handwriting of William W. Phelps and Warren Parrish, scribes to Joseph Smith, Jr. It is a bound book with handwriting on 34 pages with about 184 blank pages remaining throughout the book. There are characters in a left hand column with English explanations to the right. Original in LDS archives. There are 4 pages in Joseph Smith’s handwriting. REASONS THE CATALYST THEORY DOES NOT WORK: – The Times and Seasons with Joseph Smith as Editor along with Mormonism’s heading to the Pearl of Great Price in the past claimed the papyri was the writings of Abraham. – The Times and Seasons with Joseph Smith as Editor along with Mormonism’s heading to the Pearl of Great Price in the past claimed it was written by Abraham’s own hand. If the Catalyst Theory is correct, then God must be responsible for misleading Smith about the identity of the author of the papyri characters. – Joseph and his scribes wrote down the very symbols from the papyri we have along with a proposed meaning of those hieroglyphics and symbols in a document named Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar indicating strongly a literal translation. – Joseph Smith‘s translation and restoration of the facsimiles was incorrect. If the Catalyst Theory is correct, then God must be responsible for instructing Smith to incorrectly translate and restore the facsimiles. – The text of the Book of Abraham itself (1:12 and 1:14) declares that the source of the Book of Abraham has the Facsimile 1 fragment at its commencement, which is the Breathing Permit of Hor. If the Catalyst Theory is correct, then God must be responsible for instructing Smith to record verses in the Book of Abraham that incorrectly refer to the Facsimile 1 fragment. – The Small Sensen (Breathing Permit of Hor) characters are copied in order into the manuscripts where they are translated into the Book of Abraham. Therefore, Smith‘s own manuscripts indicate that the source of the Book of Abraham is the Small Sensen. If the Catalyst Theory is correct, then God must be responsible for misleading Smith to believe that the source of the Book of Abraham was the Small Sensen. – The Egyptian Alphabets end with two characters which appear in the manuscripts as the beginning of the Small Sensen and which translate into Abraham 1:1. Therefore, the Egyptian Alphabets indicate that the source of the Book of Abraham is the Small Sensen. If the Catalyst Theory is correct, then God must be responsible for misleading Smith to believe that the source of the Book of Abraham was the Small Sensen. Radio Free Mormon: 61: The Crying Game Part 2
President Eyring…. No Not the LDS Apostle but his son Henry J Eyring, recently gave an address at BYUI titled “Gaining and Strengthening a Testimony” where he lays out logical fallacy after logical fallacy in order to justify belief in the Book of Abraham specifically and to deal with the criticisms of the Church collectively. Combine that with his having seemingly developed the same habit of reeling you in with his tears as he cries at the drop of a hat like his father and you can sense why Grandpa Eyring the Scientist is almost assuredly shaking his head in the grave. Today you see all the illogical tricks one plays in the “Crying Game” Resources: Audio of the Eyring Talk Transcript Video The post Radio Free Mormon: 60: The Crying Game Part 1 appeared first on Mormon Discussions Podcasts - Full Lineup.

Radio Free Mormon: 056: Elder Oaks Puts the Con into General Conference PART 2
Today On Radio Free Mormon, RFM and Bill Reel dissect Elder Oaks October 2018 General Conference talk from Saturday Morning. In this talk Elder Oaks uses logical fallacy after logical fallacy and bad argument after bad argument in defending his Anti-Science prejudice and his Anti-LGBT bigotry. This 15 minute minute talk was a brilliant attempt to entrench the Church in stances that simply don’t hold up to the data and facts. Elder Oaks arguments are full of holes and unlike Ensign Blair’s ship, this vessel of a talk sinks faster by the minute. Radio Free Mormon: 054: Gaslighting By The Numbers
Today Radio Free Mormon offers a prediction for General Conference using a quote by Elder Cook from a recent General Conference. Elder Cook strangely imposed that Mormons will in fact always be “Small in number” due to “wickedness in the world”. This seemed odd in light of you and me and everyone else having grown up with a Mormonism where dynamic Growth was told to us to be an indicator of the truthfulness of the Church. As RFM goes to into detail to prove…. such seemed like blatant “Gaslighting“. And RFM postulates that if this is the new narrative of the Church that they will need to reiterate such on more than one occasion including this weeks October 2018 General Conference. Radio Free Mormon: 53: The Dissection of Elder Quentin L Cook’s Face To Face On Church History
Radio Free Mormon and Bill Reel get together for a special Episode discussion on Elder Quentin L. Cook’s Face To Face On Church History. While Elder Cook and Church Historians Matt Grow and Kate Holbrook attempt to tell the audience that Church history is faith building and that it can withstand scrutiny, a simple look at what they say and more importantly what they don’t say seems to deeply indicate otherwise. There is even cameo Appearances by Elder Ballard, Church historian Steven Harper, and even a sound blip from the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Sit back and buckle up as we learn that when it comes to Church leaders and the Church’s historians that “Nothin’ from nothin’ leaves nothin'”. Questions to LDS Church Historian after he promised to be candid and forthright in answering any question asked of him and of which when asked he refused to respond. 1.) What is your opinion of whether President Nelson as a proclaimed prophet can reasonably do what ancient prophets have done. Can he part seas, cast curses on critics making them dumb or deaf or three day slumbers or call down fires from heaven? Or do you agree that somehow now that history is recordable and verifiable and shareable that such God magic miracles have ceased and probably never were? 2.) Do you personally think Joseph Smith wrongly manipulated girls like Lucy Walker, the partridge sisters, Fanny Alger into having relationships with him? 3.) Do you believe that the Book of Mormon is an ancient text about literal ancient historically accurate Nephites and Lamanites 4.) Do you think personally that the Church is wrong about Homosexuality? do you personally think by the nature of our policies and doctrines that our institutional church causes undue trauma on gay people? 5.) Lastly do you think Elder Ballard is being completely forthright and accurate when he said “We would have to say, as two Apostles who have covered the world and know the history of the Church and know the integrity of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve from the beginning, there has been no attempt on the part of the Church leaders to try to hide anything from anybody.”? Radio Free Mormon: 052: A Whale of a Tale II -This Time It’s Personal!
BREAKING NEWS: More information has been forthcoming regarding Ensign Blair’s Miraculous rescue of his Navy Ship in a Typhoon Today RFM informs NEW additional forthcoming details along with hashing up some old ones…. ha ha ha ha ha ha muaaaahhhhhhhhhh. Ensign Frank Blair (shown in photo above) told Elder Larry Wilson a miraculous story about his inspired resolution to issues aboard his navy ship in the midst of a typhoon during the Korean War. The trouble is the details of this story are less believable than the tale of the crew of the S.S. Minnow. Below are a list of issues with Ensign Blair’s story. #1 – his story has a captain leaving the bridge during a typhoon to make way to Ensign Blair’s cabin. This seems to break navy code #2 – his story has the Captain permitting Ensign Blair to go out on the deck to “gather info” during a typhoon w/ 45′ foot waves. This would be against good judgement and dangerous. #3 – Notice the reason for the fact finding mission in #3 is made null and void by the fact that Captain and Engineer are already discussing a solution to the problem (their gauges told them the issue) when Ensign Blair shows up to the Bridge. That God in essence sent Ensign Blair on the deck to risk his life to gather info hence discovering a problem the Captain and Engineer already knew. In other words his walking the deck was unnecessary as the gauges on the bridge communicated the same info. The issue was not knowing the problem, but rather deciding a solution. Why would God put Ensign Blair in such unneeded risk to learn something already known? #4 – Also the newspaper clipping (shown above and dated August 19, 1955) has him serving on the U.S.S. Marion County. While Elder Wilson tells us the Ship has three engines, it actually only has two. #5.) Ensign Blair claims to see the propellers (also called screws) from the deck after securing himself to the the deck in a typhoon, at night, with 45′ waves. The propellers or screws as they are called are below the boat tucked away from the outside edge. Think through what angle he would have to be at leaning off the side of the boat to see the crews as they come up out of the water in a typhoon. Think about what it would take to secure himself and manually lengthen or shorten the rope he is tied to. This story is absurd and false.( See sketch below) #6 – While the newspaper (above) tells us Ensign Blair was a Chaplain, Elder Wilson tells us that there was no Chaplain and Ensign Blair, the upright religious sailor that he was, filled in. Who informed the Newspaper that Blair held the officer title of Chaplain? If Ensign Blair himself, then such is a deceptive and dishonest move as to claim a title one did not officially and legitimately hold would raise eyebrows. #7 – Elder Wilson refers to the propellers as “giant propellers” but as you can see on the image below this style ship had very small propellers, due to the need to get up on land to drop tanks off. #8 – Elder Wilson starts this story with “During the Korean War”. Except as seen in the newspaper clipping above (which was dated Aug 19, 1955), Ensign Blair did not begin his 2 year military stint until after the Korean War had ended (Korean War ended July 1953). Taken in its totality…. This faith promoting story from General Conference… well…. It simply didn’t happen. Sorry. God Magic still unconfirmed!!!
