Show Notes

CDC data show that Black women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women, with most of the maternal deaths being preventable. This heightened risk spans all income and education levels.

To put it into perspective: According to a study from the National Bureau of Economic Research, the wealthiest Black woman in California is at a higher risk of maternal mortality than the least wealthy white woman.

On February 21, as part of their "Lunch and Learn" series, Garnet Health presents "From Statistics to Solutions: Improving Black Maternal Health."  It's a lunchtime chat with the experts to discuss black maternal health and the existing disparities. We should note Garnet Health is a financial supporter of WJFF.

Tim Bruno spoke to Jessie Moore, Garnet Health’s Physician Liaison in the Community Health Department.
