What would Andrew Zimmern be drinking, if he were drinking instead of eating? Mark begins with a range of strange and unusual libations:
chocolate donut beer and pizza beer; reptile-infused wine and scorpion vodka; isinglass, a substance derived from fish bladder, which is commonly used to clarify wine and beer. He then examines two of the weirdest beverages of all—marijuana wine, being made illicitly in California, and pruno, the improved hooch concocted by prison inmates. In the course of the show, two things become apparent: yesterday’s strange beverage is today’s commonplace tipple, and what you drink says a great deal about the culture in which you live and your relationship to society at large.
