Show Notes

Welcome to this week's episode of Queerly Popular. Today, we are talking about the 2020 book Date Me, Bryson Keller by Kevin van Whye. The book is about a high school boy who asks out the most popular guy in high school; who agreed to date the first person who asks him out each week; and how they come to realize that they really like each other.

For the most part, I really enjoyed the book. I had a bit of an issue with Bryson being too perfect and with the ending leaving too many dangling threads, but I still really enjoyed the book. There is a bit of controversy because it is alleged that the author plagarized from a Manga called Seven Days. I talk about that briefly too.

I will say that this is not my favorite book, but I did appreciate the way he handled religious parents, children being outed, and other such issues with tenderness, care, and respect. Just know that there is some heavy storylines that could potentially be triggering, so be careful.
