Rick is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine who’s probably most well-known for his book, DMT: The Spirit Molecule–a book that explores his research with DMT in the early 1990s. Rick has written several books since then, most notably his 2022 book, The Psychedelic Handbook. They discuss Rick’s early DMT research, his motivation for writing the handbook, the therapeutic potential of different psychedelics, the placebo effect, different types of spiritual or mystical experiences occasioned by psychedelics, the importance of set and setting, the limitations and potential dangers of psychedelic tools, how to integrate a psychedelic experience, and much more.
