In the 1960s, a question emerged amount some theologians: is God dead? In the face of nuclear holocaust, scientific advancement, and changing social norms, was it time for Christians to admit there is no God? Or is it possible God actually grew weak and died? Some of these theologians and their ideas interacted with psychedelic drugs. Non-dual LSD trips seemed to annihilate the dualist Christian framework. Beginning with the 1960s and ending in the present day, we’ll tackle similar problems in this new episode. In the face of Climate Change, postmodern spirituality, and non-dualist psychedelic experience, does it make any sense to believe in God anymore? Is God dead?

How should a campus pastor respond if a sophomore asks to give their testimony about converting to Christianity after an LSD trip? What should lay leaders and trusted friends say if someone asks them to be a “trip sitter” during a psychedelic treatment for depression? Learn what psychedelic substances are, the kinds of experiences they can induce, and what these experiences may mean. Journey through church tradition and the scriptures to learn how ministers, lay leaders, parents, and peers can be equipped to provide spiritual and interpersonal care to someone participating in the Psychedelic Renaissance.

Come hear the greatest story rarely told: the 1970 Christmas Happening. On Christmas Day 1970, around 20,000 hippies descended on Laguna Beach, CA for a three-day “riotous birthday party for Jesus.” Music flowed on a stage decorated with a multi-colored cross, yin-yang, Christmas trees, and a statue of Jesus. Journalists described the heavy smell of hash in the air as “frankincense and myrrh.” Mutual aid tents were set up for free food and medical care. The Brotherhood of Eternal Love airdropped over thousands LSD tabs on the crowd. The event was eventually shut down with hundreds of cops in riot gear singing “Here Comes Santa Claus.” It was a Christmas celebration like no other, a West Coast Woodstock.
