Show Notes

Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Jason Fung is a Canadian nephrologist, a legendary and influential figure in the low carb world, and a world-leading expert on intermittent fasting and metabolic disease. He is also a best-selling author of several books and is the co-founder of the Intensive Dietary Management Program.

In this discussion with Dr. Fung, the topics covered include the causes of Type 2 Diabetes, treatment versus reversal of metabolic disease, the calories in/calories out versus the hormonal perspectives on nutrition and weight loss, the multitude of risks associated with obesity, why so many doctors and health practitioners are still hesitant to adopt a fasting/low carb approach to treating disease, corporate interests behind certain studies "proving" that the calories in/calories out model is accurate, and the devastation that the low fat diet had on cardiovascular health in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.

Additionally, Dr. Fung shares some insights into how he helps his patients find success with intermittent fasting and low carb dieting. He also addresses several myths that many people believe about intermittent fasting. Among those myths are the following: intermittent fasting leads to muscle loss, skipping a meal will make one feel intolerably hungry, fasting will cause one to lose energy and feel tired.
