Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Michael Breus is a clinical psychologist and diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and is Board Certified in Clinical Sleep Disorders. He is a clinical advisory board member of the Dr. Oz Show, and author of the books, The Power of When and The Sleep Doctor's Diet Plan.
In this conversation, these two docs discuss the importance of making sleep a high priority in your overall wellness plan, how sleep effects your metabolism and weight gain/loss, the relationship between insulin resistance, appetite increase, hunger increase, and sleep deprivation, the definition of 'chronotype,' how to determine what your chronotype is, how to choose blue light glasses that will be maximally effective, markers from blood work results that are useful for improving sleep, and the benefits and drawbacks of using sleeping pills.
Additionally, Dr. Breus shares some practical tips for preparing your body during the day for a good night's sleep. There are things each person can do in the morning, afternoon, and evening that can drastically effect the quality of their sleep.
